The fact that I got to photograph the wedding of these two is SUCH a joy to me! After I photographed their engagement and then their engagement party, I knew their plan was to elope in South Africa. Twelve months later an email arrived in my inbox and to my absolute delight, those plans had changed and I got to come along and finish this journey with them at an incredible place called Gordon Country, where this is no phone reception and untouched land for days.
Like so many of my incredible weddings, the journey out to Goomburra – where Gordon Country lies – was quite the adventure the day before the wedding, and once I arrived I realised just how vast this property was. I travelled several kilometres down a bumpy dirt track in my trusty little Suzuki Swift just to reach my cabin, before setting back out again to explore the property – it’s a place after my own photography heart; where the air is fresh and the landscape is wild.
Dan & Em’s characters fit this place so well – they’re adventurous and free-spirited and love this earth and all that it has to offer us. They also love rock-hopping down creeks and riverbeds for fun, and with Em being a barefoot bride we made full use of this pastime in their portrait session, as you can see above!
The celebration continued well into the night with plenty of smiles and laughs and big, squeezy hugs – and some particularly epic dancefloor action – the dirty dancing lift is in there, folks!
Hope you enjoy this story as much I enjoyed capturing it, and to Dan & Em: thank you from the bottom of my heart for having me along on this incredible adventure, my life is so much richer having met you two.
